Affirmation of Deployment of anti-missile systems is in South Korea's best interest

Opening: Imagine being under attack and watching your own people and country shriveling up into ashes without any protection as your people lie in the darkness of conflict defenseless. This is what will happen to the 51.25 million people living in South Korea today(world bank) as they face the threat of North Korea.

I affirm the resolution which states Resolved: Deployment of anti-missile systems is in South Korea's best interest

Definitions: I will define key terms for the purpose of this debate
Deployment is defined by webster dictionary to mean To place troops in a region Anti Missile System- is defined by webster dictionary to mean  The system, the Integrated Air and Missile Battle Command System(IBCS), is an anti-ballistic missile defense system designed to shoot down short, medium, and intermediate range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase by intercepting with a hit-to-kill approach.Interest-  Is defined by the english dictionary to mean to benefit someone

Contention 1:   South Korea is facing a security problem.
Since the implementation of the armistice agreement in 1953, South Korea has faced threat from an enormous conventional force of troops, tanks and artillery on a constant state of readiness. The majority of the population of ROK, some 10 million people live in or near the city of Seoul which is situated within easy striking distance of North Korea's overwhelming power. While ROK(republic of korea) has its own formidable military capability supplied  mostly through U.S. arms sales, so perhaps a key reason Kim has not ordered a massive strike and invasion across the DMZ has been the presence of the U.S. military in South Korea, backed up by a massive and powerful U.S. regional presence which could effectively destroy the North Korean regime and devastate the nation of North Korea in a matter of months if not weeks, According to the Council of Foreign Relations. Both sides know every attack or invasion scenario involves tremendous cost in terms of lives and property. For this reason, both sides, and especially North Korea, have sought strategic advantages which lessen that cost. For Kim, the solution has been a program of development of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and vehicles for delivering them across the border. In the U.S. we are aware of Kim's recent advances of its Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) program capable of striking the American mainland but the real threat for South Korea and others in the region are the short and medium range missiles, according to the CSIS Missile Defense Project. In cooperation with the U.S., the government of South Korea balances the increasing missile capability of the north with the same anti-missile technology which proved its effectiveness against Iraqi Scuds in the First Gulf War according to the Brookings Institute of Technology, . But the level of deterrence has been trumped by the Kim regime, so we need to place  these missiles in order to solve South Korea’s security problem.

Contention 2  Its provides Deterrence(the action of discouraging an action or event through instilling doubt or fear of the consequences). The possession of anti-missile systems provides a method of deterrence, According to the Austrailian naval institute of naval and maritime affairs.  Because an attack would neither land nor result in casualties, anti-missile systems can deter North Korea from attacking in the first place. The implementation of anti-missile systems also signals  to North Korea that the U.S. is committed to protecting their
ally which increases the risk North Korea takes on by firing missiles towards South Korea. In addition, South Korea would continue to be protected by the American nuclear umbrella which extends to allies of the U.S.

Contention 3 This has proven to be successful in the past. We have already launched a missile there called THAD which has been incredibly successful, so we should in turn set up more to protect South Korea.  The purpose of the The US Army's Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) system that has been deployed in South Korea is the most advanced interceptor in the world and is designed to shoot down ballistic missiles in the terminal phase of their approach to a target according to Telegraph news
South Korea also voices support as they are seeking for more missile system aid. According to the New York Times,

The United States and The South Korean  government had insisted that Thaad was necessary to guard against the growing ballistic missile threats from North Korea.  And with our help, they will be able to have a safe blanket of security and will be able to suppress the threat of North Korea.
